My name is Simon Trye, I’m a Firefighter with the Royal New Zealand Airforce.
Whilst on lockdown with my wife and kids, I had time (too much of it) like many of you, to reflect on how lucky I am, and thought about how I could help people who were struggling.
When getting lost in the void of You Tube videos I came across a Firefighter from Scranton, Pennsylvania, who set out to be the first to set a world record for “fastest half marathon wearing full firefighter kit and breathing apparatus.”
Although he didn't reach the mark of 3 hours 30 minutes that Guiness had set, it got me thinking......
After doing the math and a few trial runs at work, I decided to pursue this world record, with the aim of creating awareness, and raising money for KidsCan Charitable Trust.
I'm a great believer in the charity KidsCanNZ.
KidsCan Charitable Trust is dedicated to meeting the physical and nutritional needs of New Zealand children living in hardship to assist them in reaching their full potential in life.
I'm not big on asking for things, especially in this economic climate, I would be stoked if you could help me reach this target, even just $20 will go a long way supporting a NZ child in need, if money’s tight for you right now you can help by spreading the word about what i'm doing to your family, friends and work mates. Remember donations are tax deductible!
I've set a goal of raising $3,000, (which we have smashed, so have now upped it to $5,000) (which we’ve passed so I’ve upped it again to $7500) (and now we've passed that so it's been set at $10000) I'm confident together we can get there (or smash it again and again)!
Thanks Everyone, stay tuned for training progress and updates, find me on Facebook @si tryes guinness world record attempt
